Vad innebär att coacha utan att värdera?

Jag skulle vilja påstå att det innebär att lyssna på vad en person säger utan att värdera det hen säger. Det handlar om att sätta sig in i deras värld och lämna din värld utanför.

Hur gör man det i praktiken?

Alla har fördomar. Du har säkerligen satt personer i fack. Ratat åsikter osv. Det har vi alla. Men när du coachar en person får du lägga allt det där åt sidan. Försök förstå det som personen du coachar pratar om. Försök hela tiden förstå det ur den personens vinkel.

Är det lätt?

Nej, jag skulle vilja säga att detta är det svåraste när du coachar. Men lär du dig behärska det har du alla förutsättningar att bli en grym coach. För det är först när du verkligen kan sätta dig in i personens värld som du kan hjälpa.

En gång coachade jag en person som var öppet rasistisk. Något som för mig är helt omöjligt att förstå. Jag fick verkligen säga till mig själv flera gånger att hålla mina tankar i styr. Det var svårt. Du kommer också stöta på personer vars åsikter inte stämmer överens med dina.

Vad gjorde jag?

Coachade personen som vilken annan person som helst. Jag ljuger om jag säger att jag inte föll igenom då och då och värderade. Men jag försökte verkligen fokusera på kärnan i det vi var där för. Coacha personen att hitta nytt jobb. Inget annat. Det gick, han fick jobb och jag hade då alltså gjort mitt jobb.

Kändes det bra?

Det gjorde faktiskt det. Människor är människor och får tycka och tänka som dom vill. Det är inte min ensak, inte heller min uppgift att ändra deras åsikt. Mitt jobb är att coacha personen mot det mål hen satt upp.
